NOBLESSE OBLIGE
DOMESTIC LANDSCAPE. Small country houses, abandoned in a landscape that welcomes and possesses them indifferently. Almost all of them have a tree for shade at the front door and usually they stand on top of a hill. Quiet places. Inside I found the remains of someone else's life, the signs of time, the scars of the walls, burnt furniture, destroyed objects, cobwebs, mold, shit. Basically, the end of something. I have always been fascinated by decadence to the point of drawing an aesthetic from it. While I was trying to change the perception of the landscape by adding pictorial information to these ruins I inevitably found myself inside them. I filled the absence with paint.
PAESAGGIO DOMESTICO. Piccole case di campagna, abbandonate in un paesaggio che le accoglie e le possiede quasi indifferente. Quasi tutte hanno un albero davanti la porta per fare ombra e di solito sorgono in cima ad una collina. Sono luoghi di quiete. Dentro ci ho trovato i resti delle vite degli altri, i segni del tempo, le cicatrici dei muri, mobili bruciati, oggetti distrutti, ragnatele, muffa, merda. Insomma la fine di qualcosa. Sono sempre stato affascinato della decadenza fino a trarne un'estetica ed è per questo che mentre cercavo di cambiare la percezione del paesaggio aggiungendo informazioni pittoriche a questi ruderi inevitabilmente ci sono entrato. Ho riempito l’assenza con la pittura.
Noblesse Oblige is a work about abandonment, it gives back to these houses what is no longer there, or never was. It rewrites new stories about the remains of simple and modest lives, far removed from the luxury of the aristocracy for which they existed. No rebirth or regeneration, only the need to tell the past through the past, overturning the sensations through the signs of an anachronistic painting. A tribute to decadence. Noblesse oblige is used when a gentleman opens the door to a woman, but also when the same gentleman spits; the expression is the same, the tone is different.
This is the mockery of noblesse and the fate of a place that meets paint.
Noblesse Oblige è un lavoro sull’abbandono, restituisce a queste case ciò che non c’è più, o che probabilmente non c’è mai stato. Riscrive nuove storie sui resti di vite semplici e modeste, ben lontane dal lusso dell’aristocrazia per cui esistevano. Nessuna rinascita o rigenerazione, solo il bisogno di raccontare il passato attraverso il passato, capovolgendo le sensazioni attraverso i segni di una pittura anacronistica. Un tributo alla decadenza. Noblesse oblige si usa quando un gentiluomo apre la portiera ad una donna, ma anche quando lo stesso gentiluomo sputa; l’espressione è la stessa, cambia il tono. Questa è la beffa della nobiltà e questo è il destino dei luoghi che incontrano la pittura.
